Jent Do Pagoda Jent

Opening: Wednesday 25th March, 6-8pm Dates: Mar 25 - Apr 21 2026

Jent Do introduces ‘Pagoda Jent’, featuring the recent body of works of ‘Planet Jent’, a digitally constructed utopia that bleeds into the physical realm, subtly taking form of a Vietnamese pagoda.

Do’s works present the convergent point of Vietnamese traditional decorative ornamentations and subcultural internet art, as both are maximalist and highly saturated. Their practice resonates on the glitch, something erroneous as categorized by the mainstream system, and hence employs generative methods such as creative coding, 3D, and AI hallucination to conjure grotesque images from source images related to their personal identity as a Vietnamese non-binary immigrant in a first-world country.

In the process of devirtualization, they utilize digital fabrication processes (3D printing, laser cutting) and video screens. The centerpiece, ‘The Altar 01’ is an installation of creaturely-shaped traditional Vietnamese altar elements, conjuring an uncanny, distant yet familiar place of ancestral worship.

The exhibition prompts the audience to experience the immersive virtual-physical habitat of the ‘Pagoda Jent’, to be enthralled by the time-transcending Vietnamese symbolism and reflect on their bias or fear of the unknown, a parallel existence, which is a crucial response to the recent surge of Australia’s anti-immigration rallies.

Jent Do is a Narrm-based multidisciplinary artist working across interactive new media, sculpture, and performance, concerning world-building based on their Vietnamese heritage through the sci-fi lens of a non-binary person growing up on the internet. They hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2023. Their works have been exhibited at Firstdraft, No Vacancy, TCB, FortyfiveDownstairs, Sol Gallery, Door 84, John David Mooney Foundation. They were a finalist at FortyfiveDownstairs 2025 Emerging Artist Award, and they attended the Level Up Residency 2024 (Gold Coast, QLD).
